After a visit to her local hospital, O’Neill realized that a narrowed artery in her mind had triggered a stroke. A few months later, scans confirmed the narrowing in her artery had worsened, putting her at risk for another, potentially catastrophic stroke. That’s when she transferred to Duke, where a staff of neurosurgeons carried out a risky surgical procedure to bypass her constricted blood vessels.
